Background
Northmont Church opened the doors to its Child Development Center in 1981, and has been providing full-time child care to the community for over 20 years. The Center is state certified and licensed by the Department of Public Welfare. Our philosophy is to address all aspects of the child's development: intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. Within the atmosphere of the Center, the staff foster feelings of self-worth, respect for others, and positive social interaction in a structured, yet nurturing, Christian environment. Each child is viewed as an individual with his or her own abilities, and we strive to maximize each child's potential. The Center is open to any child from six weeks to six years of age regardless of race, color, gender, religious creed, disability, ancestry, national origin, or physical, mental, or emotional challenges.
Program
The children who attend the Center receive "tender loving care", while participating in age-appropriate activities through enrollment in one of three quality child care programs. The Infant Program, for infants from 6 weeks to 15 months of age, implements stimulation and developmental plans which concentrate on receptive language skills as well as fine and gross motor skills. Our Toddler Program, for children ages 15 to 30 months, extends receptive and expressive language skills, fine and gross motor skills, and socialization skills. The Preschool/Kindergarten Program, for children 2 1/2 through 6 years of age, provides individualized activities and instruction from both of our certified teachers in such areas as pre-math, pre-reading, science, music, art, and physical skills. In addition to semi-structured program time, the children do have free-time to experience the joys of childhood through play.
Staff
The Center is professionally staffed, and our Director, Margot Plant, and Assistant Director, Shannon Jones, are both certified teachers. Most of our full-time staff members have been with us for over 15 years, and all are highly qualified caregivers. All staff members are required to be certified in both First Aid and CPR.
