Northmont Church Leadership

As is the custom in the Presbyterian Church, much of the work of our congregation is done by two boards, elected from and by our congregation, and by committees of those boards. Deacons are primarily a service and discipleship group, responsible for everything from shut-in visitation to planning our Christmas Angel Tree project, to planning our annual all-church Winter Frolic at North Park Skating Rink. There are 18 Deacons, who each serve a three-year term. Session is made up of ruling elders who set all church policy, vote on the budget, etc. Session does much of its work through committees.  Committee leaders and Staff write annual reports to provide a better understanding of the events and accomplishments made possible by Northmont's spirited volunteers and generous members.

You don't have to be a committee member and attend monthly meetings just to help out in God's work.  If you can help out (without having to commit to meetings, etc.), please review the list of committee project opportunities.

Bylaws of Northmont Church

The bylaws of Northmont Church describe the governance of our church.  Northmont's bylaws are posted here.

Committees of Northmont Church

Christian Education provides Christian Education of the Bible, emphasizing our fundamental beliefs for spiritual formation. The committee recruits and trains teachers and chooses curriculum for our church school program and weekday after school activities for children. This committee also oversees adult church school, plans the Special Topics class, and coordinates weekday small group study.

ReachOut (Evangelism & Communication) keeps our membership and our community informed, coordinating inside and outside church public relations and advertising efforts. Coordinates the publishing of our monthly newsletter The Piper and manages our website and coordinates the annual block party. The ReachOut team also reaches out to the community to attract visitors to our church by spreading the word of God through their actions and testimony. The committee also works to make our church a more welcoming place for visitors.

Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of our church building. Recruits non-committee members for various one-time projects around the church, including fall and spring clean up, painting and landscaping projects.

Leadership coordinates the work of interacting church committees to assure that all are working toward the mission directions established by Session and in our long-range plan.

Mission & Social Action expands our support of mission globally and locally. Sponsors service projects that allow us to focus on social action in our own community.

Worship works to satisfy the spiritual needs of our members and community with vibrant, meaningful worship services. Sets policy for worship issues, including the frequency of communion, and the format of worship services.

Staff Relations works to staff our church in a way that meets our mission directives.

Stewardship & Finance works to educate our congregation about their responsibilities as stewards of God's riches. Formulates annual budget based on the gifts of members.

Youth Ministry works with our Youth Director to minister to youth in our church and community, creating opportunities for education, fellowship and service among the youth.

Designated Pastor Nominating Committee (DPNC) is responsible for running a search and identifying our next pastor to call to Northmont Church.
