Northmont Mission Ministry

Northmont is a mission-oriented church.  We are motivated to make Christian outreach and mission a vital part of our church life by the words spoken by Jesus and the examples He set in service to others.  To see mission projects funded and/or staffed in 2007, see the Northmont 2007 Mission Directory.  2008 looks to be another exciting mission-focused year for Northmont as well with participation in many mission activities from a Hosanna Industries Blitz Build to serving at the homeless shelter to continuing strong contributions to international mission efforts.  For information on sources of mission money see Northmont Mission Support.

Northmonters are a people oriented to mission. Members contribute monies, time, and talents so that they may act as witnesses to the gospel of Jesus, the Christ. Once a month Northmont groups prepare and serve a meal to homeless men at the Pleasant Valley shelter on Pittsburgh's Northside. Each Christmas, our Deacons sponsor an Angel Tree Project which gathers gifts and hosts a party for the children of Crisis Center North. Every week, the congregation collects for for North Hills Food Bank.

Many groups at Northmont are also involved in mission activities including:

  • Beacons
  • Child Development Center
  • Deacons
  • Knit Wits
  • NBC (Northmont Brotherhood Club)
  • Presbyterian Women
  • Triangles

Also, see our Special Groups page for other Northmont groups who give their time for mission causes.

In addition, the mission committee runs a bite-sized opportunities program for any individual who wants to participate in the mission efforts.

If you are interested in personal involvement in mission opportunities outside of the United States, click here.  Internationally, Northmont church is involved in a partnership with the Mangochi Church located in Malawi, a small country in central Africa.  We correspond regularly, exchange ideas, and are involved in various other projects.  We have been able to help them with supplies, and assist them financially, so that they were able to finish building a new house for their pastor, install a new PA system, and build a new Sunday School building.
