Northmont Mission Ministry

Sources of support

13.16% of our total adult offering goes to support mission outside of the church. The Mission and Social Action Committee sponsors regular mission causes. An additional 7% is contributed through special offerings and by various groups that have already been mentioned.

Mission support comes from various sources within the congregation of the Northmont United Presbyterian Church:

  1. The Mission committee recommends and the session designates a percentage of the total adult offering to be used for mission.  13.16% is our annual mission-giving target which we've held to for a number of years. An additional 3% is contributed through special offerings and by various groups.  50% of this money is sent directly to the Presbytery. The remaining 50% is distributed by thru mission committee to the various missions supported by our church. These include those that are primarily witnessing to our faith and those that are oriented toward helping others who have basic human needs.

  2. Special mission offerings are collected during the year. These presently include : One Great Hour of Sharing, Peace Making, Thank Offering, Lazarus Offering, Joy Offering, Father's Day for Pleasant Valley Shelter, Mother's Day for Bethlehem Shelter and Birthday Offering.

  3. Special Mission Projects of various groups within the church add an additional $10,000 - $20,000 to the our typical annual mission giving. These include Triangles, Deacons, Christian Education, Northmont Men's Brotherhood Club, Beacons, Child Development Center, and Presbyterian Women.

  4. Some groups such as Knit Wits and Deacons provide help other than money.

  5. Individual member designated gifts. Members may through our church, make a gift to organizations whose purpose is consistent with our faith. These offerings added an additional amount to annual mission giving.
