First Sunday in Lent
WORSHIP SERVICE Sunday, February 25, 2007 8:30 & 11:00 A.M.
PRAYER TIME BEFORE WORSHIP: Our prayer this morning, O God, is that spiritually you would lift us out of these pews to catch a glimpse of your glory and splendor. All week long we have dealt with mundane things, letters, answered phone calls, retrieved email, changed diapers, and waited on people. But we come here for a different experience. We want to taste and see that You are good, we want to hear a word from you to us, we want to know that You are still engaged with us in our struggles. Come near to each of us now, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
PRELUDE “Voluntary in a minor” John Stanley
“My Song is Love Unknown” arr. Burkhardt

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: God pours out a cup of welcome for friends and strangers, for us, for our enemies.
Community: Let us drink deeply of God’s living water.
Leader: God pours out a cup of comfort for the grieving and for those in despair, for us, for those who seek God.
Community: Let us drink deeply of God’s living water.
Leader: God pours out a cup of forgiveness for the oppressor and the oppressed, for us, for those who seek God’s mercy.
All: Come, let us worship God.
*PROCESSING HYMN “ In the Cross of Christ I Glory” No. 84
*PRAYER OF ADORATION AND INVOCATION

UNISON CONFESSION
We come, God, as your sons and daughters seeking your pardon. If we have lost You in a changing world, help us to know You again as the same from age to age, a faithful God who keeps covenant. If we are overly impressed with our own works,
impress on us the primacy of grace. If our hearts have become hard and callous, mold and shape us once again into your likeness. If we have lost joy of our salvation, restore to us a sense of wonder and awe. Truly O God, you are our light and our salvation. We have no life, save the life we know in you. Forgive us and restore us in Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.
SILENT CONFESSION & DECLARATION OF PARDON
Leader: Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and
Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ
prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has
gone; a new life has begun. You are forgiven.
Community: We are at peace. Amen.

*CREED AND GLORIA PATRI No. 579
In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God kept his promises. All that we can ever hope for was present in Christ. But the work of God in Christ is not over. God calls us to hope for more than we have yet seen. The hope God gives us is ultimate confidence that supports us when lesser hopes fail us. In Christ, God gives hope for

a new heaven and earth, certainty of victory over death, assurance of mercy and judgment beyond death. This hope gives us courage for the present struggle.

In order to help assess the direction that the congregation seeks to take Northmont and the characteristics that will be key in our new pastor, we would like every Northmont member to take a survey. The survey period will run from Monday March 5 through Sunday March 25. At the end of the survey period, PNC will summarize the results of the survey to the congregation. Thank you in advance for your help and input! Your PNC members are Bill Baierl, Sylvia Campbell, Jean Eckert, Andy Fraley, Bob Koehler, Jessica Molnar, Karen Reckless, Leonard Stewart, Christy Wenger.
