WORSHIP SERVICE                        Sunday, July 1,  2007                                10:00a

PRAYER TIME BEFORE WORSHIP: O Lord my God, you have given me the gift of life. Your Spirit works within me to deepen and broaden my appreciation for the gift of life, and I am grateful. Left to myself, I confess I grow careless and blunder along. I forget to pray and neglect prayer. I pray that I may be refurbished within, and my heart redecorated with joy and gladness. Amen.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:           Let us call to mind the deeds of the Lord. Let us remember all of His

gifts and graces poured out on us.

Community:    We will remember and give thanks. We will constantly praise

                             God’s holy name.

Leader:           For God works wonders in our lives; God displays His might among His

                          people.

Community:    We have come to worship our God and celebrate His love for

                               us in Jesus Christ.

*OPENING HYMN        “An Upper Room Did Our Lord Prepare”                       No. 94

*PRAYER OF CELEBRATION

We thank you, God, that you have always loved the world you have made. We thank you that in Jesus this love of yours was fully expressed. We thank you for the honor of being called His friends, and we pray that we may not let Him down. We pray that we may make our friendship with you real to other people in the manner of our speech, the work of our hands, the faith in our hearts. For his name’s sake. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE [verse 4 of the first hymn]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader:           Mighty deliverer, you open to us the highway of freedom, yet we stay

on the familiar path of bondage.

Community:    When Jesus calls us to follow, we try to justify our own desires

and make our own way in the world.

                                                              -2-

Leader:           We are neither ready nor fit for your service, still you claim us as your

                        own.

Community:    In mercy, forgive us, renew us, empower us, that we may live

by the Spirit bearing good fruit to your honor and glory.

                        [moment for silent confession]

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:           There is a word from the Lord, and the Word is ‘forgiven’.  In Jesus

Christ we are given new life.

Community:       We hear the good news of our forgiveness and we are

                             overjoyed.

HELP THE DEACONS WITH MILITARY CARE PACKAGES

The Deacons are gathering items to send to our military personnel.  On the second Sunday of each month, collection boxes will be at the tower entrance and in the library. We would like to have any names and addresses of military men and women that you might know who would like to receive our care packages.

Please keep the items small as these are easier to package.  If you would like to donate money toward the sending of the packages you could do that also. Every little bit helps!

Squirt guns

Snack bags (pretzels, chips)
