WORSHIP SERVICE                         Sunday, July 8, 2007                                10:00a

PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: O Holy One, I hear and say so many words, yet yours is the word I need.  Speak now, and help me listen, and, if what I hear is silence, let it quiet me, let it disturb me, let it touch my need, let it break my pride, let it shrink my certainties, let it enlarge my wonder.  Amen.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                       Psalm 119.57-60, 64

Leader:  The Lord is my portion; I promise to keep your words.

Community: I implore your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.

Leader: When I think of your ways, I turn my feet to your decrees.

Community: I hurry and do not delay to keep your commandments. The earth, O Lord, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes.

*OPENING HYMN             “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”                  No. 138

*PRAYER OF CELEBRATION

Lord God Almighty, we have been looking for suitable words to praise you.  We’ve tried Hallelujahs, Glorias and Hosannas, but really, what we want is a word from our own language, a word that is us.  Lord, you overwhelm us with you great goodness. Praise should not be difficult and yet we can’t find the exact word.  Perhaps it doesn’t exist, though if it does, I’m sure that it sounds like “yippee”.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE [verse 4 of the first hymn]

 PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Dear Lord, we know our error when we ignore the present, try to reverse the flow and live for yesterday.  Give us the grace to hold the past lightly and to lay no claim to the future. May our reverence for the old and our eagerness for new seasons enrich this moment. Through your forgiveness may this be a time of growth and renewal, of building your Kingdom and proclaim your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    [moment for silent confession]

-2-

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:         There is good news. Jesus has promised that those who confess their

            sins will be forgiven.

Community: In Christ we are forgiven.  Thanks be to God.

HELP THE DEACONS WITH MILITARY CARE PACKAGES

The Deacons are gathering items to send to our military personnel.  On the second Sunday of each month, collection boxes will be at the tower entrance and in the library. We would like to have any names and addresses of military men and women that you might know who would like to receive our care packages.

Please keep the items small as these are easier to package.  If you would like to donate money toward the sending of the packages you could do that also. Every little bit helps!

Squirt guns

Snack bags (pretzels, chips)

Baby wipes
