PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

*CALL TO WORSHIP

   Leader:           The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it.

    Community:    The Lord made the earth stand firm above the rivers.

    Leader:           Therefore, lift up your heads, lift them high, and see all that God has

                          done.

     Community:    The Lord of hosts is with us, entering our midst in glory.

    Leader:           He enters quietly, often unnoticed, but he is indeed present.

Community:    He comes to hear our worship and receive our praise.  Let our
                          lives and our voices proclaim thanksgiving and joy.

*OPENING HYMN             “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”                  No. 478

*PRAYER OF CELEBRATION

God of joy and surprises, you always overstep the narrowness of our expectations of You. You turn up out of place in time to bless and bless and bless us yet again. You surprise us daily and we call it coincidence. However, Lord, we are transformed.  We are awakened to your daily miracles, especially to your constant presence. Continue to surprise us with your grace that we may be a blessing to others.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE [verse 4 of the first hymn]

 PRAYER OF CONFESSION

    Leader:           God of all joy, you have invited us to enter your presence boldly;

     Community:    Yet, we have turned away from you.

    Leader:           You have opened the way for us, to celebrate our relationship with you

                          joyously;

                                                                            -2-

     Community:    But we have held back in fear.  We confess that we have

                               resisted your summons to be one with you.

    Leader:           Forgive us for turning from you, by your gentle spirit bend us from our

                          stubborn resistance.

     Community:    Warm our hearts to welcome your embrace and quicken our

                               voices to sing your praise.        [moment for silent confession]

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

    Leader:           In bold assurance and glad celebration, we know that we are indeed

                          beloved by you, and that through Christ you reign over all.

     Community:    Through that love shown us in Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

                               Thanks be to God.

The I-TEAM meeting is listed in the bulletin this week. The Interim Team was formed by Session at the request of Dr. Ewing to work with him. The Interim Team is a review and recommendation group whose task it is to help the interim pastor identify plans and directions that need to be addressed during the interim time and suggest ways to meet those needs.  The I-Team reports to Session.

In November 2006 work was begun to prepare for Northmont’s transition to an Interim Pastor and a ‘Transition Team’ was formed.  The Transition Team accomplished their goals when Dr. Ewing was Called and the Team was dismissed with the grateful thanks of Session and congregation in April of this year.

The (new) Interim Team is comprised of Jerry Holman, Janet Hoegel, Lisa Baierl, Dick Spahr, Judith Shifrin, Larry Anderson, Carolyn Pearsall and Dr. Ewing.

AS YOU GREET PEOPLE THIS MORNING, let them know how much you care. And remember, when you meet someone with extra needs, tell them about our Stephen Ministry. If you would like to talk with a Stephen Minister, contact Stephen Leader Nancy Garver at 724-935-2194.
