WORSHIP SERVICE                     Sunday, August 12, 2007                             10:00a

PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: My great and loving God, I used to think of you as far away, a God to travel to. Then came the day of the earthquake, and the walls of my heart fell down revealing you at the core of my being.  Everything I saw contained you. The world you made is a unity, where you weave all things into a oneness. There is so much more to discover about you.  Open that door and show me. Amen.

PRELUDE                                     “Prelude in C”                                        Vierne

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

*CALL TO WORSHIP

    Leader:           We have called to you, O Lord, out of the depth of our being;

Community:    We have sought to be heard in your heavenly courts.

Leader:           We have waited for you, O Lord, patiently and expectantly.

Community:    For we know that in you is mercy and peace.

Leader:           Hear now your people’s prayers of intercession and words of praise.

Community:    Come quickly to us in our worship and in our prayers.  Keep us

waiting no longer for your redemption.

*OPENING HYMN                        “Earth and All Stars”                                  No. 458

*PRAYER OF CELEBRATION

Lord of all creation, our lives are celebrations of your gifts, expressions of your love and witnesses to your grace. Life culminates in worship, where here, in this place and at this time, we can join together in praise, lifting your name, giving thanks for our lives, and our talents. Worship celebrates and proclaims your covenant community, of which we are grateful to be a part, and witnesses to your Kingdom and your reign in and through Jesus Christ in whose name we pray. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE [verse 4 of the first hymn]

 PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader:           Righteous and merciful God, we acknowledge that we have chosen

                          death rather than life.

Community:    Look upon us in mercy and forgive us; reach out to us in our

                               grief and despair.

Leader:           Release us from our sin and set us again on your path.

                                                                           -2-

Community:       Empower us by your spirit to live according to your will, that

we may we bear witness anew to your goodness and grace.

    [moment for silent confession]

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:           The God of all peace, whose Son offers us forgiveness and joy, grant us

                          peace and mercy.

Community:    Through the love shown us in Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Faithful God, we thank you for this sign and seal of our welcome into the household of faith, and our reminder of your promises to us and to our children. Today we welcome as Christ’s own Samuel James Irvin.  We pray that through your Spirit he would grow strong in faith and love of God.  We pray for David and Jennifer that they continue to be given wisdom as their family grows. Together with all the community, may they grow in wisdom and knowledge of Christ and in service to Him. Amen.
