PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP O God, gather me now to be with you as you are with me. Soothe my tiredness; quiet my fretfulness; curb my aimlessness; relieve my compulsiveness; let me be easy for a moment. I pray that you would deepen my wounds into wisdom; shape my weaknesses into compassion; my fear into trust; my guilt into honesty. O God, gather me to be with you as you are with me. Amen.
PRELUDE “Chant de Paix” (Song of Peace) Langlais
“Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” arr. Burkhardt
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
*CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Sing praises to the Lord. Sing to God a new song.
Community: May God’s praise be heard in the gathering of the faithful.
Leader: Let all of God’s people exult in glory, let them sing for joy.
Community: Let us praise God’s name with voice and instrument.
Leader: Let all nature resound with God’s praise.
Community: Come, let us worship with joy and enthusiasm, for God is good.
*OPENING HYMN “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” No. 263
*PRAYER OF CELEBRATION
Eternal God, today the fresh beauty of your world comes surging back and we are grateful. We want to sing a new song; to find words with which to praise you who are the Giver; to let the ‘Alleluias’ ring. We seek to allow the joy of our faith to burst forth in us and in our world. Keep reminding us that in You all things are made new, and to You belong all praise and honor. Amen.
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE [verse 4 of the first hymn]
LITANY OF CONFESSION
Leader: God of love, you call us to love one another, just as Jesus loved us.
Community: You ordain us to be one with each other, even as the Father
and the Son are one.
Leader: Yet we disown our sisters and brothers; our divisions defame your good
name.
Community: Forgive us in your great mercy. Baptize us anew with your
Spirit of love, with grace to accept those whom you accept, to
love those whom you love, to forgive one another as you have
-2-
forgiven us, and to live and work in united witness, through
Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. [Moment of silent confession]
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: The Gospel of Jesus Christ is Good News.
Community: By His life, death and resurrection, we are made one again
with Christ. We are forgiven and given abundant grace and
mercy.
